The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is promoting the well-being of strays as part of its celebration of World Animal Day.

The non-profit organization started its participation in the annual global day to raise awareness about animal welfare by getting more than 200 animals in its shelter represented in a virtual Pet Blessing during a Holy Mass in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of the animals, held on October 3, 2021, the eve of World Animal Day.

“These 5 beautiful creatures represent animals all over the world who have been abused or neglected. They represent stray animals who are victims of irresponsible pet ownership, left to fend for themselves and exposed to all sorts of dangers. Today is their day,” posted PAWS about the pet blessing held on Sunday.

During a program after the mass, PAWS launched the official theme song of World Animal Day Philippines, “A World of Friends”, with music by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, lyrics by award-winning director Jose Javier Reyes, and performed by Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.

PAWS also partnered with wonderfullymadekids.com for a poster-making campaign that promotes the adoption of animals from shelters.

PAWS has rescued abandoned animals and involved celebrities like Heart Evangelista in its campaign to promote the adoption of the Asong Pinoy (Aspin).
