Newcomer Pinoy pop group BGYO has made its Billboard Chart debut at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Next Big Sound.

The five-member boy band, composed of Gelo, Akira, JL, Nate, and Mikki, was ranked second in Billboard’s Next Big Sound charts for the week of May 15, 2021.

BGYO entered the global music list in the highest peak position for a newly established Filipino act, tied with fellow Pinoy pop (P-Pop) group Alamat which earlier achieved the momentous feat.

The Billboard Next Big Sound Chart is a weekly ranking of the “fastest accelerating artists” on social media and streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Music.

The BGYO group earlier charted at second place on the Pandora Predictions Chart powered by Next Big Sound which ranks artists on their likelihood of success, as measured by a patented predictive algorithm.

The breakout artists of BGYO studied for two years at ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy (SHA) and have since launched two songs, “He’s Into Her” and “The Light,” since their official group launch in January.

The group’s name, BGYO, is an acronym for “Becoming the change, Going further, You and I showing the world what it means to be, Originally Filipino.”

Filipino artists who entered the Billboard Next Big Sound Chart include internationally renowned Filipino singer Morisette Amon, Alamat, and Pinoy boy band Soundbreak19 (SB19).
