Party Animal breaks Ronald Ventura auction record at Christie’s
Filipino painter Ronald Ventura’s “Party Animal” broke his own auction record as one of the highest-selling contemporary Southeast Asian artists at Christie’s Live Auction held in Hong Kong.
Ventura’s “Party Animal” was sold at Christie’s “20th and 21st Century Art Evening Sale” on May 24, 2021, for HKD 19,450,000 or more than 120 million in Philippine pesos, setting a new auction record for the contemporary artist.
The “Party Animal” artwork is described as a blend of human and animal forms and explores socio-political conflicts. It was exhibited in the Tyler Rollins Fine Art gallery in Chelsea, New York in 2017.
Born in 1973 in Manila, the Philippines, Ventura ranks as one of the most acclaimed artists in Southeast Asia. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from the University of Santo Tomas.
Ventura’s artwork “Grayground” previously set a record for the highest price ever paid for a work of Southeast Asian contemporary art when it sold for $1.1 million at Sotheby’s Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings auction in Hong Kong.
Ronald Ventura’s artworks were showcased in the Philippines’ Leon Gallery and Auction House, which is among the top 250 auction houses in the world.
The prestigious Martyn Gregory Gallery in London featured drawings and paintings of various Philippine scenes from the 19th and 20th centuries in 2019.
